California

This conversation sums up how we all felt about our April trip to California while driving home from the airport after arriving back home in SLC:

Owen: Why are we going home?

Joey: Because we were on vacation, that means it's a break from doing the work that we have to do. Now we have to come back home and work. I have a lot to get done here at home.

Owen: Well, I have a lot to get done at Disneyland. It's not working out for me here at home. It's working out for me at Disneyland.

Yes, Owen, it was working out for us in California. But, hopefully we can go back very soon.

Owen was just tall enough to ride all the roller coasters at Disneyland (he had to wear really thick socks, but hey - it worked). He loved them all, particularly the Matterhorn, aka Abominable snowman. We spent the first day in the rain, but it kept the masses away for the most part. My parents spent close to $100 dollars on ponchos, but they were well worth it. We did it all - Disneyland, California Adventure, and several character breakfasts/dinners. We were there with half the Northern hemisphere (I've seriously never seen so many people in my entire life), but we had fun nonetheless and had the Fast Pass down to a science. So much fun.
My favorite ride - Splash Mountain. Owen's there too - you can just see his little hand, bracing himself for the big splash.

We spent the last half of the week in Laguna Nigel, staying at one fabulous resort right on the beach. We were treated royally. And, we all know how I feel about turn down service.

I'm pretty sure people thought I was crazy taking this picture, but it is the view form the hotel gym. Crystal chandelier, view of the Pacific, I'd be a rock star if I could work out here every day.

This is why people live in Southern California. I couldn't get enough.

Fun Day

What a fun day Owen had today. Breakfast on the playground with friends, Utes spring game, a trip to 7-11, Dale's baseball game, and a date with Holly and Kip the dog.

What could be better for a little boy? Owen suggested to me on the drive home that he would like to drive in a BMW Z3 with the top down (it was the car next to us at a stop light) to get another slurpee and then a concrete (from Nielsen's). My kind of kid.

3 Months

• spends most of his time with his thumbs between his pointer and birdie fingers
• rolls from belly to back and just this week rolled from his back to belly a few times (granted, he gets high-centered on his arm, but he is learning)
• smiles all day long
• for the most part is a good sleeper. I thought I had a sleeping prodigy at four weeks, but although he was good then, he hasn't really changed his sleeping habits since then.
  
• Found his feet recently and likes to hang on to them by grabbing his pj's

Owen Collided with a Grocery Cart

Owen and a grocery cart collided tonight. It immediately split his lip open.

I was kindly helped to the car while Owen thrashed in pain, blood was everywhere, Adam was screaming and a full cart of groceries sat inside.

We raced to the ER where the bleeding was stopped and we spent the next 4 1/2 hours of our lives.

Owen calmed down pretty quickly once we were at the hospital. Joey recounts: "Wow. This whole thing was a lot harder than we anticipated. He wasfine until they gave him a drug that went up his nose in a spray. Heimmediately started freaking out and the drug had a reverse effect. He started thrashing around and was very mad at the nurses, not relaxed at all. They tried to hold him down to give him a shot in the gash in his lip, but he was trashing so badly the needle ended up poking him a bunch of times in the lip and making him even more upset.

Then, they decided the nasal drug wasn't working, so he had to get an IV. They tried once, and didn't get it right, so they brought in a bunch of tools to try to get the right placement on his veins. They got the IV on the next attempt. Owen told the nurses "I don't like you guys" about 10 times throughout.

They gave him a drug through the IV that knocked him mostly out. Then
they cleaned and stitched him up. He's now starting to come around
from the drugs, and is saying funny things. He was holding a
popsicle, just one, but looked at it and yelled "Hey! Two popsicles!"

Being in pain sucks. Watching your child in pain is way worse."

Once Owen was cleaned up and could stand on his own, we were released, but the fun didn't stop at the hospital. He came home and puked all over our family room floor, then all over our kitchen floor and then politely asked to be taken to the toilet. He has said thank you a million times; a nice change from the words coming out of his mouth at the hospital.
